Proud finalists at CIM Marketing Excellence Awards

What a fantastic time we had at the CIM Excellence in Marketing Awards 2016 last Thursday 14 April at the beautiful Grosvenor House Hotel in London.

I am so proud to have seen The Media Angel up alongside some amazing brands in the finals. Our ‘Legacies’ campaign with Ty Hafan was nominated with the likes of O2, Direct Line, Camelot, Bupa, PWC UK, Legal and General, Vision Express, Jewson, Visit Britain and Santander as an example of excellence in marketing across the UK. With our Legacies campaign achieving a ROI of over 300% for life limited children at Ty Hafan, we were identified as worthy finalists demonstrating a commitment to marketing innovations within the SME category. All finalists were celebrated for the creativity and originality of their campaigns, paying special respects to the positive impact that great marketing can have on an organisation; much like our Ty Hafan Legacies case study.

There were 24 categories rewarding the breadth of marketing excellence across some of the UK’s most respected brands. I couldn’t be more proud of The Media Angel and my team making the finals and representing Wales. Out of around 150 finalists in total, there were only 5 Welsh organisations at this year’s ceremony. To be the only Welsh media planning and buying agency shortlisted in the finals feels like an amazing achievement. Also flying the flag for Wales in the Brand Experience category was our wonderful client Swansea University. Their Making Waves campaign has performed exceptionally well over the past 3 years, increasing in popularity year on year with added thanks to our talented team’s media planning and buying expertise.

I am so very proud of  The Media Angel and my team for achieving such huge recognition. Being such a small and hard working agency we are beyond thrilled to be able to say we were the only media planning and buying agency across Wales to win at the CIM Canmol Marketing Awards, and one of few Welsh brands to make the finals at National level in 2016. The past 12 months have been truly amazing for our dedicated team.

We would love to say a huge thank you to all of our clients and friends for their constant and continued support over the past few years, we are so grateful to each and every one of you. Without your support we wouldn’t be where we are today. We love our roles within this exciting and fast paced advertising sector. Each day and each client campaign is so varied, we love the fact we don’t know what we will get asked to work on next. Whatever the campaign and whatever its size, we have a combined industry experience of over 50 years and love to put our heads together to tackle any kind of brief. So if you are looking for some inspiring and innovative ideas then get in touch with our team of experts. #LoveMarketing

RAJAR Q4 what you need to know

The first week in February saw the release of the latest radio listening figures for quarter 4.

We have put together a brief summary of the most important points to take away from RAJAR from the last quarter:

There were listeners lost across the board in South Wales

Although Heart South Wales and Capital South Wales unfortunately lost the most number of listeners this quarter they still remain at the top in terms of weekly reach, still managing to reach 522,000 and 161,000 listeners each week respectively.

Despite what you might think, this is definitely positive news….

Especially for advertisers! The good news is that losses in listeners mean losses in premiums. We will still be able to reach huge numbers of the population each week on these stations, but now for an even more affordable cost. At least for the next quarter, advertisers will be able to maximise their budgets on these stations and enjoy a huge frequency of message which will aid generating response.

Local listening proved its worth.

Local radio stations such as The Wave, Radio Pembrokeshire, Radio Carmarthenshire and Bridge FM remained at the top in terms of percentage listening share last quarter.

Radio Pembrokeshire and The Wave had the highest percentage weekly reach of all stations in South Wales (36% and 32% respectively). Bridge FM (28%), Radio Carmarthenshire (25%) and Radio Ceredigion (21%) weren’t far behind.

Radio Pembrokeshire also recorded the highest number of hours listened; 10.6 hours on average per listener.

The Wave gained 1,000 new listeners this quarter and was the only radio station in South Wales to have increased its weekly reach.

Radio in North Wales increased in popularity and reach

Capital North West and Wales attracted an extra 19,000 listeners last quarter and Heart North Wales was close behind gaining an additional 10,000 listeners per week. Smooth Radio North West and Wales was also up by 8,000 weekly listeners.

By analysing these radio listening figures, we are able to see the most up to date trends in the market and consult on the most appropriate station for you to utilise in order to reach your target audience and achieve your campaign objectives.

Why should I advertise on radio?

We’ve made the finals for a CIM Canmol Marketing Award

We are so thrilled by the news that we have been shortlisted for a 2015 CIM Canmol Marketing Award for our work with children’s hospice charity Tŷ Hafan! The Chartered Institute of Marketing hosts Canmol every year; dedicated to celebrating excellence in Welsh Marketing.

The business and marketing experts on the panel at Canmol felt our work with Tŷ Hafan; helping them raise crucial awareness of the amazing work they undertake for children with life limiting illnesses was worthy of an award nomination.

Tŷ Hafan offers comfort, care and support to life-limited children, young people and their families in the hospice, in the community and in their home so they can make the most of the time they have left together.

Tŷ Hafan established an Individual Giving team in 2012 to generate sustainable income from individuals. Legacies has become a key income stream for Tŷ Hafan, generating around 70% of annual Individual giving income over the past few years. We have been working with the charity since 2014 to help devise, buy and implement their media plans across all projects, including the Legacy promotion.

The campaign focused on how Tŷ Hafan helps life-limited children to leave their priceless mark on the world, and encouraged people to leave their own mark on the world too through leaving a gift in their Will. ‘Leave your Mark’ was the key message to promote this campaign.

We are extremely proud of the fantastic results the campaign achieved from using a simple mix of new digital media in the form of VOD with ITV Player and more traditional, methods such as print, magazines and direct mail. The campaign proved that by using the right mix of new and traditional media, amazing results can be delivered within an affordable cost.

We found this project extremely rewarding, as its outcome has made a real difference to life-limited children and their families in Wales. The campaign contributed to increasing the number of donations the charity needs to be able to continue with their outstanding work. The campaign delivered an overwhelming 300% more than the proposed target, generating on average £360,000 which will go a long way in helping Tŷ Hafan continue to do the brilliant work that they do.

We’d love to send our huge congratulations to all of the finalists, especially to clients Swansea University and Swansea Bay!

We’re also proud to be sponsoring the drinks reception at this year’s Canmol Awards on 6th November for a second year. We are very much looking forward to welcoming all guests with a glass of bubbly to start the evening off to what we are sure will be a great event!

South Wales Fire & Rescue Service appoint The Media Angel for Summer Campaign

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service (SWFRS) and the RNLI have chosen our team at The Media Angel to help them launch their ‘Get a taxi, not our boat’ campaign starting this week!

The aim of this campaign is to raise awareness about the high number of accidental drowning incidents that occur throughout South Wales; particularly after victims have consumed heavy amounts of alcohol. The campaign will aim to encourage people to make their way home more safely after a night out and avoid risky areas where both fatal and non-fatal drowning incidents can occur.

The South Wales Fire and Rescue Service and the RNLI had been searching for an agency to help bring the important message about drowning prevention and water safety to the people of South Wales in a fun and engaging way while also proving to be best value after biding through the Fire and Rescue Service Procurement process.

Managing Director of The Media Angel, Alison Debono has expressed her delight at the news;

“We were thrilled to hear the news that the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service and the RNLI had decided upon us as their chosen marketing agency! I am immensely proud of my team for winning this fantastic and hugely important pitch for the Fire and Rescue Service in conjunction with the RNLI.”

“We couldn’t be happier about helping these two amazing services drive home their vital message about avoiding risky behaviour around water and respecting the dangers. We are excited about getting this campaign underway, and are really delighted to be working with such a fantastic team of people”.

The Media and Communications team at SWFRS and the RNLI also expressed their enthusiasm about working with us, stating “We are excited about the prospect of working with the team at The Media Angel on our upcoming water awareness campaign.  The team gave an excellent pitch proposal that was great value too.  When we met them they were great; really enthusiastic and flexible to work with. We feel that this partnership will result in a superb campaign. Exciting times lie ahead!”

This fully integrated campaign begins Monday 13th July incorporating a mix of transport, outdoor, radio and online advertising to help get the message in front of youngsters during the summer. As part of the campaign the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service will also be offering individuals the chance to win a Kindle Fire HDX!

From the 13th July residents of Cardiff and the surrounding areas will be able to spot South Wales Fire and Rescue branded taxis across the city; make sure you take a picture of the taxi and tweet #getataxi to enter the competition!

Flybe launch 11 new routes from Cardiff Airport

At The Media Angel this month, we are super excited to be involved in the launch of Flybe from Cardiff Airport.

Flybe have chosen Cardiff Airport as their new base, bringing to Wales 11 new routes to several European destinations this summer. Cardiff is set to connect with some of Europe’s most beautiful cities; including Cork, Dublin, Edinburgh, Faro, Glasgow, Munich, Milan and Paris from as little as £24.99 one way.

This is great news for Welsh residents and holidaymakers alike, who will see over half a million extra seats available from Cardiff, along with the creation of over 50 new jobs.

Lord Rowe-Beddoe, Chairman at Cardiff Airport, commented on the move, saying:

“Our customers want greater choice in routes, more frequent services and better value flights. This new Flybe base is most welcome news for our passengers as it will bring new destinations and increased services from a popular great-value airline, as well as creating opportunities to encourage more visitors to come to Wales.”

Cardiff Airport is currently working with The Media Angel to launch the new Flybe routes to the people of South Wales. From 16th March an exciting, multichannel integrated launch campaign will begin to push these great value fares, and spread the word about the ever improving connectivity of Wales to the world.

Get in touch with The Media Angel for more information about multichannel advertising campaigns, and the huge potential of some fantastic marketing opportunities. Call 02921 320 300 or email [email protected]

Front row seats at the CIM Canmol Marketing Awards 2014

The Chartered Institute of Marketing’s ‘Canmol’ awards took place last Friday at Cardiff Bay’s St David’s Hotel; announcing 8 companies’ marketing campaigns as well deserved winners of the prestigious awards. The Media Angel attended and presented our full support for the event finalists and winners through sponsorship of the reception welcome.

The successful marketing teams of this year’s ceremony were chosen from an array of Welsh organisations across all sectors; from big renowned Welsh brands to those smaller SME’s and local businesses. Each category winner thoroughly deserved this recognition and celebration of their hard work, creativity and innovative marketing strategies which produced fantastic business results!

Some of this year’s fabulous category winners included Cardiff’s leading provider of commercial legal services Capital Law, Welsh pastry manufacturers Peter’s Food, Swansea Council’s Visit Swansea Bay, Llantrisant based manufacturer of thermal desorption products Markes International, and S4C! The inspirational new marketer award was presented to Irene Hammond, designer of the ‘Show me Where’ communication application; an exciting new pain communication tool for children with autism and speech disabilities.

Once again, the benchmark for Welsh marketing excellence has been set by CIM’s choice of winners. The standards remain extremely high for Welsh marketing, and it is clear that Welsh businesses should be immensely proud of their achievements in such a quality, competitive industry.

More people in Wales listen to radio than any other UK nation

If the latest figures from Ofcom’s communication market report are anything to go by, radio should really be considered an important part of your advertising plans, particularly for advertisers wishing to reach a high percentage of adults in Wales.

The radio reach figures for Wales appear to be extraordinarily high, with services reaching 95.4% of the adult population! These massive figures accompanied further impressive statistics to show that Welsh audiences also tuned in for longer listening hours than any other of our UK counterparts. South Wales based stations in particular are reaching large numbers of the population, with Capital for example reaching a massive 98,000 listeners between the ages of 15 and 34 every week. Similarly, South Wales’ Nation Radio has a considerable weekly reach of 173,000 listeners, accruing a total average of around 688,000 listening hours for every week.

These figures no doubt suggest that radio should be a vital element in your marketing mix, if you aren’t making use of this medium and its benefits already. We Angels know that radio advertising can sometimes be costly, and when the purse strings are little tight, plans to make use of those airwaves might be first to face the chop.

However, with the right mix of creativity and innovation, and with the potential to reach huge numbers of the population, radio advertising could potentially produce great returns on that investment.

As always the Angels are on hand to make sure you make the most of your marketing potential, and can help with your plans to identify the perfect mix of media for your campaign.

With the largest increase in DAB radio set ownership over the past year, perhaps there has never been a better time to advertise over the airwaves in Wales. Improvements in DAB coverage are likely to have encouraged these increased figures in DAB ownership and reach. Perhaps it’s time to make the most of these exciting developments and incorporate radio into your marketing mix! Get in touch.
